To my Uncle Gopie,
Your death will be the longest parting there ever will be between your family. I won't shed tears because you have gone to a better place, you will meet with my mother and grandparents and I am sure we will meet again. You passed away because your body has served its purpose. Your soul has achieved what it came to do, learned what it came to learn, so you left a contented man or so I hope. I will remember you even when I have forgotten all the rest. You were the only uncle who always treated me as a daughter, equally as your own and not as a piece of meat like the others. You always treated us all equally and I have a lot of memories with your daughter Devika. I will always remember when you use to teach Devika to drive you would sneakily let me drive without letting your wife know because she would’ve gotten angry because I didn’t have a permit. I remember you taking us to school everyday at PS90 and picking us up afterschool, we would always stop at the deli to get candy and you would get a Coors light beer. I’ll never forget the one day you walked the neighbors kids with us to school and Usman took a big branch and hit me in the leg and you got so pissed that he never ever bothered me again. You were always so good to my mother, I’ll never forget for every Mother’s Day you would buy me a little gift to give to my mom without letting anyone know and my mom would be so happy, you helped me put that beautiful smile on my mothers face. After the passing of my mother, you and your wife has took the responsibility of raising my sister Fazia, you did a great job at being parents to her and she’s made you just as proud as your other two children. Where ever you go, I pray you find my mother and tell her how much we miss and love her. You both deserve peace, for all you do for others no one can ever do for you. I understand when people have a problem you should never judge them especially when you can help them instead of bad talking or making them feel less of a person because you do not know what and how they feel, what may be easy for you is not for everyone and you wanting to have a drink is what made you happier living life. So cheers to you uncle Gopie for overcoming any and all obstacles you have encountered. We will never forget you and you will always be missed!
