Q: How did you meet Edwin?
A: I met Eddie in March 1968 at our military base in South Korea. We became friends and we served together in B battery the 7th battalion 17th artillery regiment 2nd Infantry Division. We remained together until he rotated back to the United States in February 1969. He wrote me a letter shortly after he returned home but we lost contact over the years. Then one day my son Michael was talking to me and mentioned some names of the men he worked with and he mentioned Eddie Gonzalez and I said “ I was in the Army with an Eddie Gonzalez” and shortly after this it was established that it was the same Eddie I was in Korea with. We finally met in 2017, that was 48 yrs. Finally we met in person after all those years. I met his wonderful wife Aida and his son Eddie jr., it was great to reminisce of the old days way back then. Sadly my son Michael called me to tell me that Eddie passed away. I was totally devasted. We had some great times together in Korea and for that I am so grateful and will remember those with fond memories.
Rest In Peace my friend, I will miss you!
